The Young Writers Festival is a biennial event that aims to give young people living or going to school in our community the opportunity to share their stories, poetry, essays, or opinion pieces on any subject. The festival is designed to encourage our young writers to develop and discover their literary skills.

The festival has been run twice previously with each festival year attracting approximately 300 entries - an outstanding result. The 2022 event is now underway.

For the 2020 Festival we engaged a team of local creative professionals led by film maker Clare Young to produce a short documentary video designed to capture the spirit of the festival.

This delightful video features interviews with community members including winning authors, teachers, sponsors, judges, Lions Club members, and of course the young writers themselves. We believe that the video successfully elevates the achievements and creative potential of the young writers in our region in a story, which celebrates resilience, community spirit, and hope.

Braidwood Lions Club would like to thank the distinguished local authors who so generously donate their time to judge all entries and identify those showing the most promise, and to renowned author Jackie French who is the Festival Patron. Their commitment to this major Lions project is warmly acknowledged by Braidwood Lions Club members. Stories judged to be the best in each category are included in a book that will be published and offered for sale on the Festival Website.

Braidwood Lions Club was formed in 1965 and has been running continuously ever since. We are a group of people dedicated to making our community a better place to live, work and grow - community is what we make it! The projects we become involved in are many and varied with many directly visible to the local community. Annually, we generally raise over $20,000 with this money getting re-directed to needy causes in our community.
