The Nimmity Bell is a project of the Nimmitabel Lions Club, designed to be a potent symbol of the town’s transformation from sawmilling town to an exciting tourist stop. Like the Old Mill and the Elephant, it is an attraction enticing traffic to stop in town, so visitors can enjoy the services offered and learn about the town’s proud history.

Discovered on-line by local farmer Howard Charles, the bronze Nimmity Bell, made in 1920 and imported from Michigan USA is perhaps a humorous play on the town’s name. The plaques on the stone plinth record the names of over 100 families who generously supported the Bell with more than $60,000 raised in 3 months. They are a virtual roll-call of the families who built the town and gave it its heritage.

The Nimmitabel Lions Club, long established and well respected in the community has worked with the Cooma-Monaro Shire Council to develop many of the major developments in town, including the picturesque Lake Williams.

This project has been endorsed by the Nimmitabel Advancement Group, led by President Richard Lawson, and received strong support from Local Member, John Barilaro MP and the NSW Government Premier’s Department.

The Nimmity Bell was launched by John Barilaro in 2015 and opened by him, together with Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor, Peter Beer on 2nd October 2021.

The Lions Club thanks all our supporters and Kate Waldren’s Design, Shane Crowe’s Engineering, Roger Toole’s Construction and Ken Baxter’s Stonemasonry and the Geldmacher Trustees.

Nimmitabel Lions Club is a not for profit community organisation serving the town of Nimmitabel and it’s surrounds as part of Lions Clubs International.
